Episode 36 of the Search Dog Podcast for November 15, 2015 features an interview Dr. James Serpell, professor of Animal Ethics & Welfare at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He also directs the Center for Interaction of Animals and Society.  His research focuses on the behavior and welfare of dogs and cats, the development of human attitudes toward animals, and the history and impact of human-animal relationships.

           

In the podcast, Dr. Serpell talks about the C-BARQ, which stands for the Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire. This is a tool he developed to assist dog owners and professionals with standardized evaluations of canine temperament and behavior.

           

Dr. Serpell has published more than 100 articles and book chapter. He is the author, editor, or co-author of several books. He has been featured in numerous TV and radio shows including PBS specials on NOVA and NATURE and on the BBC’s Pedigree Dogs Exposed.
